Aikido Aiki Kai

Aikido Aiki Kai

Aikido is a modern, non-violent Japanese martial art that was developed early in the 20th century by the late master Professor Morihei Ueshiba, commonly called O Sensei. The Founder passed away in 1969 at the age of eighty six. Aikido is effective as a martial art but its essence goes beyond the resolution of physical conflict. Based on a background of rigorous training in traditional Japanese jujitsu, Professor Ueshiba spent the latter half of his life developing the art as a means of refining and uplifting human spirit. He succeeded in creating what he then named 'Aikido', 'the Way of Harmony with the Forces and Principles of Nature'. Aikido is a true 'budo', path in which the keen edge of martial training is utilised as a 'Way' to spiritual growth. Cardiac Rehabilitation at UTAS

Who is it for? This program is for people who have completed cardiac rehabilitation at the LGH or have been referred by their medical practitioner, and would like to continue exercising in a supportive and monitored environment along with other people who have a similar health condition. Program  The program is run in a group setting where the exercises are designed to improve strength, balance, cardiorespiratory endurance.  There is a high supervisor to client ratio. (There is a maximum of 12 clients per session who will be supervised by an accredited Exercise Physiologist as well as by students who are training to be allied health professionals).  Initial consults are scheduled on a Monday or Tuesday afternoon.  Class options are: Mondays 6pm; Tuesdays 3pm; Wednesdays 9am; and Thursdays 6pm  Exercise Clinic Tamar Lane (Via Newnham Drive), Newnham  45-60 minutes per session INFO: Dr. Sibella King, AEP Sibella.King@utas.edu.au Ph: 6324 4005

Heart Foundation Walking is a network of free community-based walking groups with volunteer Walk Organisers who lead groups in your local area. The Heart Foundation is taking steps to support Australians to lead active, healthy lives by encouraging them to join or start Heart Foundation Walking groups which are fun and a great way to meet new people. Walking for at least 30 minutes a day provides a range of heart health benefits including maintaining healthy weight, increased fitness and strength, improved self-esteem and mental health. Paringa is an Aboriginal name for girls, meaning "Home at the river". Pathways Community Fitness Group

The Pathways community fitness group is proudly hosted by Anglicare's Pathways program in partnership with Active Launceston. Pathways is a mental health support program which aims to increase the capacity of adults with a mental health diagnosis to participate fully in their community and get involved in social, recreational and educational activities. Pathways runs a variety of group activities every Monday - Friday from 10am - 3pm, and also provides one on one support for participants. Each session of the pathways physical wellbeing group will be comprised of 2 parts: an information workshop followed by the chance to get active, all under the guidance of a qualified fitness instructor. The program is run in a group setting where the exercises are circuit-based and modified to suit individual needs and abilities. The classes are self-paced and designed to address strength, balance and cardiorespiratory fitness and weight loss goals.
